Our vision for the future of Flushing begins
on Main Street and ends on the western portion of the Flushing
of the Flushing River at Flushing-Corona Park. The vision
is for a integrated sport, retail, housing, and entertainment
center from Shea Stadium to Main Street. This is a ten-year
plan for the area to transform into a clean, friendly, and
attractive neighorhood to live, work, and play. The plan calls
for linear development that provides direct access from downtown
Flushing to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
By utilizing abandoned manufacturing buildings and brownfields
we are promoting sustainable development and creating pleasant
neighborhoods. The Flushing River divides the community
in half. Our plan is to connect the two communities of the
river through a connecting passageway. On the left bank
of the river, there will be a trade zone and sports complex.
On the right bank of the river, our plans are for waterfront
development, village, and entertainment center.
Linear development necessitates that development occur with
coordination and that each development project supports the
next. Once the project is completed, it would provide a town
center for residents to gather and be entertained; expand
retail westward; create thousands of jobs and new housing
units; and integrate a ballpark into the downtown. |
